Feeling BlueSometime ago I read a story about molasses curing bereaved dogs. The writer Archie tells of two dogs belonging to a friend who had passed away and his dogs were for 8 months moping around depressed. Archie’s action was to give these dogs molasses and within the day they completely changed for the better - playing, barking and so forth. Why this worked was not asked. It is no longer medically considered the role of the temperaments in the manifestation of disorders and diseases. [The four temperaments being choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, and melancholic.] No doubt people have observed in themselves of the eating of chocolate and such sweets in times of sadness. In other words in melancholy the antidote is sweetness. However, be very careful in the choice of sweetness. Avoid sugar (refined cane sugar especially). The best source of sweetness for melancholy is sun dried fruits, and in this case, of sun ripened minimally processed cane molasses. Melancholy and MolassesMelancholic tends to brood; in the child and the adult too. Holds onto the past, cannot let go, as in the example above with the dogs longing for their friend; melancholics struggle in vain against inner and outer difficulties. Children may find homework exhausting. These souls need encouragement. These people need sugar in the diet as from sun-ripened fruits. Sun-dried figs, apricots, prunes also help with bowel movements as the melancholic can tend to suffer constipation. A good mixed diet and not too many roots or cabbage. In extreme cases of melancholia in children generous sugar can be added, but in this case I would urge you to get some professional advice.Strengthen DigestionFor the adult in need of help to cope with the above mental states and resulting physical conditions and that desire for excesssweetnesss, can take a herbal composition: NSP Ginseng & Ginger Combination (100)This is a Chinese combination of 18 herbs that nutritionally acts as a digestive system tonic and provides energy to a weakened body. The Chinese call this formula wen zhong, which
